I’m a sucker for an adventure. I’ve always been this way. Never satisfied with an ordinary life. I want to be a part of a great story.
As a college student with too much time on my hands I was surrounded with other idealistic dreamers like myself. My friends and I had a motto we tried to live by…
Live Life to Tell a Great Story.
I’m not sure where we heard it. We like to think we made it up. But it was probably a line in a movie or a fortune cookie or a Mountain Dew commercial. No matter. For us it became the inspiration to never settle for a mediocre story. Great stories have adventure. There is risk, fear, danger, and triumph. There are interesting characters along the way. We wanted great stories to tell.
One of those great stories landed me at a table on the front patio of a coffee shop in the Rocky Mountains at 6:00am on a poorly planned road trip. After a sleepless night in an SUV in the parking lot of a Target, we needed coffee. Strong coffee.
I sat on that patio drinking my most memorable cup of coffee – probably ever – watching the sunrise behind me paint the snow-covered mountains from top to bottom in pink and orange in front of me. And it hit me.
This is the one of the most beautiful moments of my life. But there’s got to be more to life than this.
I tried my hardest to live out some great stories. But there’s got to be a greater story to tell than what I had been a part of. And there is.
We all want to be a part of an adventure. What constitutes an adventure looks different for everyone. But deep down, I think we all have a desire to live life to tell a great story.
But what’s better than telling a few good stories in our lives is telling the one truly Great Story.
As followers of Jesus we live life to tell the Great Story… the story of God rescuing his people by sending His Son into the world to die on the cross. It’s a story of love and sacrifice. It’s the story worth giving our lives to tell.
This is what it means to Go Bold. It’s not just a hashtag. It’s a call to adventure. It’s the inspiration to courageously demonstrate the love of God in real ways to people around us. We tell the Great Story with our lives and our words. When we Go Bold, we live a life of adventure, risk, fear, danger and triumph. We sacrifice our time and resources in order to boldly share God’s love. These are the marks of a great story and the marks of a person committed to a life of telling the Great Story.
There’s nothing greater to live for.
So Go Bold. Tell the Great Story in word and deed. Share your adventure.
